Vereeniging company shut down after authorities uncover illegal tunnel

Authorities discovered an illegal underground tunnel used by undocumented workers to evade compliance during a raid on a non-compliant Vereeniging company. The company was shut down. The raid, led by the Deputy Minister of Labour and Employment, also resulted in the arrest of four Chinese nationals and one illegal immigrant employee. The company was found to be in violation of multiple labor laws. This incident follows a similar compliance blitz in August that led to the closure of an unlicensed waste facility and the arrest of undocumented foreign nationals.
