Vast ocean of water hides inside Mars

Scientists have discovered a vast ocean's worth of water hidden within Mars, potentially reshaping our understanding of the planet's past and future. Analysis of seismic data from the InSight lander reveals a layer of liquid water could exist between 5.4 and 8 kilometers beneath the Martian surface. This water volume is comparable to the Antarctic ice sheet and could cover Mars in an ocean hundreds of meters deep. This discovery suggests Mars was once a wetter planet and raises the possibility of subsurface life. Future missions are planned to confirm the water's presence and explore its potential for supporting human presence.
