Vanished Fortresses Reemerge at Historic Weekend in Gouffern en Auge

An exhibition on the history of Exmes and the former fortresses of the Argentan region attracted over 160 visitors during the European Heritage Days on September 19-20, 2026, in Gouffern en Auge, Orne. Organized by Cristian Moreno, the event featured an ancient representation of the now-disappeared Château d'Exmes and other historical illustrations. Moreno also presented his book *Les Forteresses du pays d'Argentan*, based on a 1508 map, and all 30 printed copies were sold, with 30 additional orders placed. The exhibition included a collection of old postcards of Exmes, some animated, sparking memories among visitors. Local officials and descendants of historian Robert du Mesnil du Buisson praised the event, with Senator Nathalie Goulet highlighting the surprise of a Colombian-born organizer revealing the region's heritage.
