Vålerenga chairman resigns after captain's sale to Viking

Vålerenga Fotball Elite's chairman, Søren Eriksen, has resigned with immediate effect following the sale of captain Henrik Bjørdal to Viking on the final day of the transfer window. The decision came during a board meeting held after the transfer. Eriksen stated he lacked the necessary support for his decisions, which he said were made to strengthen the club's finances and future. Deputy chair Ine Hope Karlsen will take over the role, while Eriksen defended the sale as crucial for liquidity despite weakening the squad. The club has faced turmoil in 2026, including the sacking of coach Geir Bakke in May and a recent poor run of form. Sports director Joacim Jonsson also announced his departure after the season.
