Vadodara Municipal Corporation rejects plan to double sanitation charges
The Vadodara Municipal Corporation's standing committee has rejected a proposal to double sanitation charges for the 2025-26 budget. The committee argued against the increase, citing recent floods and upcoming civic elections as reasons to avoid burdening citizens. The budget was approved with a slight increase from Rs 6,200.56 crore to Rs 6,219.81 crore. Additional revenue will come from sources like LED hoardings and auctioning plots, with increased funding for land acquisition and water resource modernization. The VMC plans to survey the city's lakes and wetlands with the GEER Foundation to improve flood management. This initiative aims to interlink and desilt lakes, addressing issues caused by urbanization and neglect over the years.
