Uttar Pradesh's first 44-bed mother and newborn unit opening
Ram Sagar Mishra Hospital in Bakshi Ka Talab is set to launch a new 44-bed Mother and Newborn Care Unit (MNCU) in April. This will be the first government facility in the state to provide specialized care for mothers and their newborns. The new unit will have 24 beds for mother-baby pairs and 20 for ailing infants. Unlike Sick Newborn Care Units, this unit allows mothers to stay with their babies. This arrangement is designed to support the healthy development of newborns, particularly those weighing between 1.8 kg and 2.5 kg. Mothers will receive training on how to care for their babies before being admitted. The MNCU aims to provide around-the-clock care for sick or underweight newborns, which may require temporary oxygen support or intravenous fluids. The facility will be equipped with advanced medical tools, including radiant warmers and CPAP machines. There will also be a Lactation Management Unit, allowing mothers to store their milk safely for later use.
