Uttar Pradesh plans 35 crore saplings for green cover

Uttar Pradesh aims to plant and protect 35 crore saplings this year, a significant environmental initiative. The state government has instructed various departments to prepare for the massive plantation drive, including the Forest, Rural Development, and Agriculture departments. The annual Van Mahotsav will be held from July 1-7, with a major planting event on World Environment Day, June 5. This initiative follows a reported increase of 559 sq km in green cover in UP, as per the 2023 India State of Forest Report. Saplings will be planted on various types of land, including public and private areas.
