Utah leaders urge Hollywood to keep Sundance Film Festival in state
Utah leaders, including Governor Spencer Cox, have signed an open letter urging Hollywood to keep the Sundance Film Festival in the state. The letter appeared in the Los Angeles Times and emphasizes Utah's long-standing relationship with the festival. The current contract for Sundance in Park City expires after the 2026 festival. Several cities, including Boulder, Colorado, and Cincinnati, Ohio, are competing to host the event. Utah is proposing $3 million in state funding to support its bid. During the recent festival, attendees expressed concerns about accessibility and high hotel prices in Park City. If Sundance remains in Utah, most screenings would shift to Salt Lake City, with fewer events in Park City.
