The Annie E. Casey Foundation's latest report shows improvements in the well-being of U.S. youth aged 14 to 24. Poverty rates have dropped from 26% in 2010-12 to 19% in 2023, and high school graduation rates reached a record high of 87% in 2022. Despite these positive trends, mental health remains a concern. Reports indicate a significant increase in feelings of sadness and hopelessness among high school students since 2011. Additionally, 11% of youth aged 16 to 24 are disconnected from work and school. Access to health insurance has improved, with 89% of young people covered in 2022, up from 79% in 2012. However, disparities exist across states, and substance abuse among youth remains an issue, with 9% reporting drug or alcohol misuse.
