US tariffs of up to 100% on drones take effect

New US tariffs of up to 100% on drones and certain components took effect on Sept 3, aiming to reduce import reliance in an industry dominated by China. President Donald Trump signed the order in August, citing national security threats from drone imports. Drones over 25 kilograms, those with thermal imaging, and docking stations face 100% duties, while smaller drones face 25%. Some component tariffs begin Feb 9 next year. China opposed the move, saying it disrupts the global supply chain and undermines fair competition. Chinese firm DJI, holding over two-thirds of the global drone market, has been on a US military-linked list since 2022.
