US senator asks for investigation into Chinese e-commerce platforms SHEIN and Temu

US Senator Tom Cotton has asked the Justice and Homeland Security Departments to investigate Chinese e-commerce platforms SHEIN and Temu for alleged intellectual property theft and counterfeiting. The request follows the end of a de minimis rule that exempted low-value shipments from tariffs, which had allowed the companies to grow rapidly in the US market. SHEIN and Temu have not commented on the letter, though the EU previously cited Temu for violating rules on counterfeit goods.
