Unreleased and lost films highlight Hollywood's hidden treasures

Several films remain unreleased or lost, despite being completed. Among them is "Batgirl," a $70 million superhero movie canceled in 2022 due to a merger and deemed unsatisfactory by the studio. It was written off as a tax loss. Another notable film is Jerry Lewis's "The Day The Clown Cried," filmed in 1972 but never released due to rights issues. Although a rough cut exists, it is unlikely to be screened without the approval of the co-writer, who opposed its release. Other films include "All-Star Weekend," which has been delayed since 2019, and "Big Bug Man," featuring Marlon Brando, which has not been seen since its production. Many films from early cinema, like "The Story Of The Kelly Gang," are also lost.
