Unión and Lanús battle to climb Argentine Clausura standings

Unión host Lanús on Thursday in the Argentine Clausura’s second round, with the visitors able to climb to second place and the hosts targeting the top eight. In the Apertura, both reached the knockout stage; Lanús finished with 24 points, three more than Unión, but lost to Argentinos Juniors, while Unión fell to eventual champion Belgrano. Unión drew 2-2 with Platense and lost to Gimnasia. Lanús won its Clausura opener but lost to Instituto and was routed 4-0 by Cienciano, following its Recopa Sudamericana title and early Libertadores exit.
