Unicode submits 164 new emojis for approval including distorted face and ballet dancer
The Unicode Consortium has submitted 164 new emojis for approval in version 17, expected next fall. Among them are nine new characters, including a distorted face, ballet dancer, and treasure chest, along with new skin tones for existing emojis. The distorted face emoji resembles a controversial design from a past Apple ad. Apple typically releases new emojis in mid-cycle updates, with the next batch likely arriving in spring 2025 as part of iOS 18 updates. While the new emojis will not be available in the first release of iOS 19, Apple will introduce a feature called Genmoji next month, allowing users to create personalized emojis.
