UNESCO hosts media literacy consultation in Karachi to shape Pakistan's strategy

UNESCO, in partnership with Media Foundation 360, held its second provincial consultation in Karachi to develop Pakistan's Media and Information Literacy (MIL) strategy. The event gathered policymakers, media professionals, and academics to provide input on the draft strategy. Speakers, including Karachi's Mayor and media executives, emphasized the need to include MIL in the national curriculum from primary education. They discussed the balance between media regulation and freedom of expression, highlighting the importance of a media-literate society. Participants agreed on the necessity of good governance to combat misinformation and protect the information ecosystem. The consultation featured sessions on social cohesion, an integrated approach to media literacy, and the importance of cultural diversity in shaping MIL policies.
