Undetected drone explodes near Bulgaria’s border with Romania

A drone exploded in Bulgaria near the Romanian border on August 8, approximately one kilometer from a gas pipeline compressor station, causing no casualties or damage. The drone entered Bulgarian airspace from Romania, exploding about 100 meters inside territory near the former Kardam checkpoint. Authorities isolated the area and are investigating; PM Radev said it carried significant explosives but wasn't detected due to its small size and low altitude. Both Bulgaria and Romania said radar systems did not detect the drone. Bulgaria will raise the incident at NATO next week; whether it was a deliberate attack remains unclear.
