Understanding restoration benefits in health insurance policies
Health insurance policies with restoration benefits provide extra coverage beyond the initial sum insured. This feature is especially useful for families sharing a policy, allowing them to make additional claims even after exhausting the original coverage. There are two main types of restoration benefits: complete exhaustion and partial exhaustion. Complete exhaustion benefits activate only after the entire sum insured is used, while partial exhaustion allows claims even if some coverage remains. Conditions apply, such as no carryover of unused benefits to the next policy year. Restoration benefits cannot be used for the first claim of the year and typically allow only one family member to use it at a time. Some policies offer unlimited restoration benefits, which do not have the same restrictions as regular plans.
