UN report: Foreign fighters and drones prolong Sudan's war

A UN fact-finding mission reported that foreign fighters and military support are strengthening Sudan's warring parties, prolonging the conflict and worsening the situation for civilians. The report documented cross-border networks recruiting and deploying foreign personnel for the Rapid Support Forces, including up to 2,000 former Colombian military contractors, with transit points in Chad, Libya, and Somalia. It also found reasonable grounds that Sudanese Armed Forces used foreign-supplied drones harming civilians. The investigators urged countries to enforce the Darfur arms embargo, halt military transfers risking violations, and called on the UN Security Council to extend the embargo to all of Sudan to protect civilians and hold accountable those prolonging the war.
