UN report details sexual violence and threats against non-Arab groups in Darfur
A new UN report reveals that militia fighters in Darfur are committing sexual violence against non-Arab ethnic groups, particularly the Masalit. Survivors reported threats to force them to have "Arab babies," indicating a racial motive behind the attacks. The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been linked to widespread atrocities, including rape and torture, since fighting began in April 2023. The RSF has taken control of much of Darfur, leading to significant displacement and humanitarian crises. Activists claim the RSF's actions reflect a pattern of ethnic cleansing and potential genocide. The situation has worsened since the end of UN peacekeeping in 2020, allowing Arab militias to operate with increased impunity.
