Ultraprocessed plant-based foods linked to heart disease and death
Summary: A study linked ultraprocessed plant-based foods to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and death, not specifically plant-based meat substitutes. For every 10% increase in consumption of plant-based ultraprocessed foods, the risk of heart disease rose by 5% and mortality by 12%. However, the study couldn't pinpoint specific foods causing these effects. Ultraprocessed foods, including imitation meats, are associated with negative health outcomes.
