Ukrainian Intelligence Agencies Clash in Kyiv Shootout

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the head of the SBU's department for protecting state secrets, Oleh Kramov, following a reported shootout between SBU and HUR personnel in central Kyiv. The clash, which occurred overnight on September 1-2, resulted in one death and two injuries, according to Ukrainian media. The conflict began when SBU detained a Russian commander linked to HUR's "Eastern" special forces unit and attempted to search an apartment building used by the unit. Both agencies, known for assassinating Russian officers, have intensified rivalry over influence and resources following recent leadership changes. Zelensky has ordered intelligence chiefs to explain the incident, and a major investigation has been launched.
