Ukraine's Zelenskiy condemns Kyiv shoot-out between SBU and HUR officers

A shoot-out in central Kyiv between officers from Ukraine's SBU domestic security service and HUR military intelligence directorate injured several people, an incident President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called "disgraceful." The clash occurred Wednesday morning during an SBU investigation. The SBU said the shoot-out "definitely shouldn't have happened" and that it is assisting state investigators. The incident was sparked by the SBU's arrest of a Russian man fighting for Ukraine under HUR supervision, with three HUR officers injured during a search of an apartment. Zelenskiy fired SBU official Oleh Khramov hours after the incident, stating that shooting is only permitted against Russian occupiers. The clash comes amid Russian bombardment of Kyiv and follows recent challenges to Zelenskiy's authority, including calls for wartime elections from a sacked defence minister.
