Ukraine faces severe budget cuts across civilian and military sectors if international aid is withheld, lawmaker warns
Ukraine faces severe budget cuts across civilian and military sectors if international financial aid is withheld, according to lawmaker Olha Vasylevska-Smakliuk, who warned that delayed support would force spending reductions in critical areas. The cuts would affect winter preparedness, border security, weapons procurement, and arms production contracts. Social spending would also shrink, starting with internally displaced persons, followed by children and pensioners, while teachers, doctors, and other workers face funding threats. Subsidies for free school meals through 11th grade would be eliminated, along with reconstruction projects, the "Affordable Loans 5-7-9%" program, and business development initiatives for veterans and displaced persons. Ukraine risks losing nearly $30 billion in aid if parliament fails to pass EU-required legislation by October 13.
