UK workers spend nearly £1 billion of their own money on AI for work, Deloitte finds

live.euronext.com —

A new Deloitte survey finds one in six UK workers personally pays for AI tools for their jobs, costing nearly £1 billion ($1.4 billion) annually. Two-thirds have tried such tools, with nearly a quarter using them daily. The inaugural GenAI Workforce Survey shows workers adopting AI faster than employers provide it, with 31% using it secretly and 17% paying themselves. Common uses include searching, drafting emails, and summaries, saving 70 minutes weekly. Deloitte warns most usage remains basic, urging organizations to move beyond access and focus on guided, purposeful implementation. The survey polled 25,000 workers via Ipsos.
