UK wind turbines set new record generating over 22000 megawatts

UK wind turbines have set a new record, generating over 22,000 megawatts for the first time on December 15. The National Energy System Operator reported a peak of 22,243 megawatts, surpassing the previous record of 21,998 megawatts from January 2023. This milestone supports the UK government's goal to decarbonize the electricity grid by 2030, aiming for at least 95% low-carbon power. Achieving this will require significant growth in both offshore and onshore wind energy. Industry representatives noted the economic benefits of a wind and solar-dominated energy system. They expressed optimism about collaborating with the government to meet the new clean energy targets outlined in the recent Clean Power 2030 Action Plan.
