A UK study found that a pathway for diagnosing cancer in patients with non-specific symptoms identified cancer in 8.8% of cases. The SCAN Pathway, analyzed over six years, also detected serious non-cancer diagnoses in 10.9% of patients and significant incidental findings in 19.3%, highlighting diagnostic complexity. The research supports the value of these pathways but stresses the need for resources to manage incidental findings and calls for cost-effectiveness studies.
