UK special forces members may face war crimes charges over Syria incidents
Nine members of UK special forces may face prosecution for alleged war crimes in Syria, according to Ministry of Defence data. Two cases are under review by the Service Prosecuting Authority, involving one individual and eight others. The Ministry of Defence has not disclosed specific details about the incidents. Previous reports indicated that five SAS soldiers were investigated for using excessive force during an operation against a suspected jihadist in Syria. Additionally, the Service Prosecuting Authority is reviewing a separate case involving a special forces member in Afghanistan. A public inquiry is also examining allegations of civilian killings by UK Special Forces during operations in Afghanistan from 2010 to 2013.
