Nigel Farage, leader of the UK's Reform party, is embroiled in a new scandal after an undercover investigation by Verbatim Media, aired Thursday on Channel 4, allegedly caught his team accepting an illegal donation scheme from a fake American investor. The investigation, spanning nearly a year, saw journalists pose as wealthy Americans. Farage's aides reportedly facilitated over £30,000 in polls paid by the fictitious donor and discussed a mechanism to channel a £500,000 gift through a British intermediary, potentially circumventing strict UK rules on foreign donations. Two of Farage's advisers resigned on Friday following the broadcast. Farage denies any wrongdoing, claiming the party broke no laws and that he was unaware of the poll payments. The Electoral Commission says it is monitoring the situation. This follows previous controversies, including a £5 million donation from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne in 2024, which is already under investigation by Parliament's ethics committee.
