UK Parliament prepares to vote on assisted dying bill for terminally ill adults
The UK Parliament is set to vote on the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) bill on November 30. This proposed law would allow terminally ill adults in England and Wales to choose medically assisted dying if they have six months or less to live. Assisted dying laws differ across Europe. The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Spain, and Portugal have legalized various forms of assisted dying, while Switzerland allows assisted suicide. Austria and Italy have also made recent legal changes regarding assisted dying. Public support for the UK bill is high, with 73% of people in favor. However, some former Prime Ministers oppose the measure, while others, like David Cameron, have shifted to support it. If the bill fails, current laws will remain unchanged.
