UK introduces new laws to ban AI tools for child sexual abuse images

The UK government plans to introduce four new laws to combat child sexual abuse images created by artificial intelligence. These laws will make it illegal to possess, create, or distribute AI tools for generating such images, with penalties of up to five years in prison. Additionally, possessing AI manuals for child exploitation will also be banned, carrying a three-year prison sentence. The laws will target websites sharing abuse content and allow authorities to inspect digital devices of individuals suspected of posing a risk to children at the UK border. Reports of AI-generated child sexual abuse images have surged, with a 380% increase in confirmed cases from 2023 to 2024. Experts emphasize the need for stronger measures to protect children from the growing threat of AI exploitation.
