UK government responds to WASPI group's compensation demands for pension age changes
The UK government has responded to demands from the Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) group for £3,000 compensation for women affected by state pension age changes. The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman found that the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) failed to adequately notify these women. The Ombudsman recommended compensation between £1,000 and £2,950 for those affected. The WASPI campaign has gained support, collecting over 130,000 signatures for a petition that could prompt a parliamentary debate. The DWP stated it is reviewing the Ombudsman’s report and is committed to supporting pensioners. However, WASPI representatives expressed frustration over the lack of urgency and are seeking a clear timeline for compensation implementation.
