UK government boosts funding for athletes ahead of LA 2028 Games
The UK government will increase funding for British Olympic and Paralympic athletes by 10% for the Los Angeles 2028 Games. Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced a total of £344 million in the recent Budget, providing an additional £9 million annually. This funding aims to support hundreds of athletes as they prepare for the Games. It follows a survey indicating that many athletes would consider quitting without improved financial support. The funding will also benefit athletes competing in the 2026 Winter Olympics. UK Sport plans to detail how the funds will be allocated across sports in December. The investment will enhance training, coaching, and living support for over 1,000 athletes in 50 sports.
