UK flight delays: 2,000 flights hit, compensation unlikely for passengers

Tens of thousands of passengers affected by this week's UK flight cancellations are unlikely to receive compensation, the Civil Aviation Authority has warned, citing "extraordinary circumstances" rules. More than 2,000 flights were cancelled or delayed Tuesday and Wednesday after a technical issue at National Air Traffic Services, with Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester and Stansted most disrupted. Nats chief Martin Rolfe was summoned to meet Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander. Ryanair has called for Rolfe's sacking, while stranded passengers reported scams and significant out-of-pocket costs. Disruption was expected to wind down Thursday.
