UK families urged to check £2,000 Child Trust Fund accounts

Hundreds of thousands of young adults in the UK may be owed unclaimed Child Trust Fund payments averaging around £2,000, with approximately 760,000 matured accounts still unaccessed. The funds were opened for children born between September 1, 2002, and January 2, 2011, with roughly 6.3 million accounts created. HMRC could have opened accounts on behalf of children if parents did not, meaning many families may not know the accounts exist. Experts estimate the unclaimed funds could collectively be worth about £1.52 billion. Many account holders may have moved or changed contact details without updating providers, preventing them from being notified when they turned 18.
