UK braces for Storm Éowyn as amber weather alert warns of blizzard conditions and high winds

The Met Office has issued a rare amber weather alert for Storm Éowyn, warning of blizzard conditions and winds exceeding 90 mph. This storm is expected to cause significant disruption across the UK, particularly in Wales and Northern Ireland. Heavy snow, with rates of up to 10 cm per hour, is forecasted for Northern Ireland. Winds will intensify throughout the night, with coastal areas experiencing the worst conditions, including gusts of 72 mph in Pembroke and 69 mph in Plymouth. The storm will peak between 5 am and 9 am, with gusts reaching 93 mph in Londonderry and 85 mph in Belfast. The Met Office advises that conditions will gradually improve later on Friday.
