Tyrone Thompson, a player for the Hawke’s Bay Magpies, has switched from rugby union to rugby league. He will join his twin brother, Leo Thompson, at the Newcastle Knights in 2025.

The move had been speculated for about a year and was confirmed by the Knights. Tyrone will sign a National Rugby League Development contract after finishing his commitments with New Zealand Rugby Union.

The Knights are adding another set of twins to their roster. They recently reached the playoffs but were eliminated in the first round by the North Queensland Cowboys.
