Two peafowl chicks hatch at Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary in first successful breeding
Two peafowl chicks hatched at Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary last month, marking the first successful breeding of peafowls in captivity there. The sanctuary already housed three adult peafowls, two of which mated and laid three eggs. The successful breeding followed a habitat change two years ago, moving the birds from traditional cages to an open enclosure that mimics their natural environment. This new setup includes grass cover and canopy branches, promoting natural behavior. Zoo officials are closely monitoring the two chicks to ensure their safety and development. The sanctuary aims to replicate this breeding success with other species as part of its conservation efforts.
