Two large asteroids to pass Earth, one 1.3 miles long

Two large asteroids, including one bigger than 99% of near-Earth asteroids, will have a "close approach" to Earth. The larger asteroid, (415029) 2011 UL21, is 1.3 miles long and will pass by on June 27 at a safe distance. Another asteroid, 2024 MK, will follow on June 29, coming closer than the Moon. Improved detection technology is needed to monitor potentially hazardous near-Earth objects.
