Two Comelec commissioners to retire before 2025 midterm elections in Philippines

Two commissioners of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the Philippines, Socorro Inting and Marlon Casquejo, will retire on February 2, 2025. This is three months before the midterm elections scheduled for May 12, 2025. Their departure will reduce the number of commissioners from six to four. Inting and Casquejo have played significant roles in the elections held in 2019 and 2022. Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia acknowledged their contributions and noted the challenges ahead with fewer commissioners during the election preparations.
