Two Chinese nationals get life sentences for smuggling 240 kg of meth into Philippines

A Pasay City court sentenced two Chinese nationals to life imprisonment for importing about 240 kilograms of shabu into the Philippines, the Department of Justice announced. Each was also fined 2 million pesos. The Pasay City Regional Trial Court convicted Jason Tan Ang and James Ong Soiano under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. The drugs were discovered in October 2020 inside tea bags concealed in a shipment of workbench tables from Malaysia. The arrests followed an entrapment operation after customs officials found the methamphetamine. Justice Secretary Fredderick A. Vida welcomed the ruling, stating it warns that the Philippines is no haven for illegal drugs under the Bagong Pilipinas era.
