Turkey rejects Greece's 12-nautical-mile territorial water claims

Turkey has called Greece's claims regarding the extension of its territorial waters to 12 nautical miles unacceptable and contrary to international law. Ankara's Ministry of Defense stated that unilateral actions by Greece ignore existing differences and violate Turkish rights. This statement comes shortly before a meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Mitsotakis previously asserted Greece's unilateral right to extend its territorial waters, citing its expansion in the Ionian Sea as an example.
