Tupelo delays skatepark, storing donated equipment
Tupelo officials are delaying the installation of donated skateboarding obstacles, leaving the equipment in storage for over two years. The delay has disappointed the community that raised funds for the beginner-level skatepark. The obstacles, including ramps and boxes, were purchased with prize money won by a local skateboarding team and additional donations. The equipment was intended for a second, beginner-friendly skatepark, but the city has yet to finalize a location. The city is considering multiple locations and will revisit the project during the upcoming budgeting season. The donated ramps are made of durable composite wood, and the community hopes to build more obstacles for different wards.
