Tuas Checkpoint car lanes to close in phases from Sept 1 for automated clearance works
Car lane closures at Tuas Checkpoint will begin Sept 1 as construction for a new automated border clearance system starts, potentially causing delays for drivers heading to Malaysia. The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority announced Aug 26 that works will last until late 2027, with departure car zones temporarily closed in phases. Existing manned counters will be replaced by Automated Passenger Clearance System lanes, allowing drivers and passengers to clear immigration without leaving vehicles using QR codes and biometric verification. Road signages and safety markers have been installed to guide travellers. ICA advises checking traffic conditions beforehand and using QR codes for faster clearance. The system, first introduced at Changi Airport in 2024, will extend to all vehicles at land checkpoints, with Tuas implementation from early 2027 followed by Woodlands.
