ctvnews.ca

The TTC launched a pilot program using cameras on streetcars to deter illegal passing of open doors. Four streetcars on busy routes are equipped with cameras for nine months to monitor cyclists, e-bike, scooter, and vehicle users who pass stopped streetcars. The goal is to improve rider safety and test technology for future enforcement. Failing to stop for a streetcar with open doors can result in a $183 fine and three demerit points. Between 2014 and 2024, 141 people were injured in incidents involving vehicles and streetcar passengers.
