TTC chair announces tentative opening date for Eglinton Crosstown in summer 2025

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) Chair announced that the Eglinton Crosstown line is tentatively set to open on June 1, 2025. This marks a significant delay, as construction began in 2011 with an original completion date of 2020. The project has faced numerous budget overruns and quality control issues, with costs rising from an initial estimate of $9.1 billion to $12.8 billion by 2022. Operator training and a month-long trial are required before the line can become fully operational. Michael Lindsay, currently the CEO of Infrastructure Ontario, will take over as interim leader of Metrolinx on December 16, 2024. He is expected to focus on completing the long-delayed Eglinton Crosstown project.
