Trump's federal prosecutor withdraws charges against January 6 client
Ed Martin, Donald Trump's interim federal prosecutor for D.C., has requested to withdraw charges against Joseph Padilla, a Jan. 6 insurrectionist he represented. This move has raised ethical concerns due to potential conflicts of interest. Padilla was sentenced to 6.5 years in prison for assaulting police officers during the Capitol riot. Martin's motion cited Trump's clemency order for certain offenses related to the insurrection. Experts noted that Martin's actions may violate Justice Department rules requiring lawyers to recuse themselves from cases involving former clients. Martin claimed he had stopped involvement in Jan. 6 cases over a year ago.
