Trump signs $100 million pro bono deal with Skadden

A major law firm, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, has made a deal with the Trump administration to provide $100 million in free legal services. The services will support various causes, including helping veterans and promoting fairness in the justice system. President Trump announced the agreement, describing it as a settlement to improve relations with the firm amidst recent executive orders targeting other legal firms. He noted that Skadden's commitment to ending the "weaponization of the justice system" played a key role in the deal. Skadden plans to hire law graduates and follow merit-based practices, ensuring support for all politically disenfranchised groups. Their agreement came right before two other firms, WilmerHale and Jenner & Block, sued Trump over contract disputes related to their security clearances. In the ongoing conflict, Trump has criticized the involvement of former special counsel Robert Mueller in investigations related to his presidency. WilmerHale and Jenner claim the administration is acting against them for political reasons. Recently, another law firm, Paul Weiss, made a similar deal and received favorable treatment from the administration.
