Trump reaffirms interest in Greenland citing economic security and mineral resources
Donald Trump has reiterated his interest in acquiring Greenland, suggesting military force could be an option. He claims the territory is vital for U.S. economic security and mineral resources, despite Greenland's Prime Minister stating it is not for sale. Danish officials are concerned about potential tariffs from Trump if they do not cooperate. They have expressed willingness to discuss closer ties with the U.S. regarding mineral exploration, which has increased in recent years. Greenland is rich in rare minerals needed by the U.S. to compete with China. The U.S. has been strengthening its mining relations with Greenland, but currently holds only one active exploration license, while the U.K. and Canada have many more.
