Train World accountant stole over one million euros

A former Train World employee was convicted of fraud and ordered to pay back over one million euros after embezzling funds from the museum. The employee, working in accounting, created false invoices for services never rendered, diverting funds to her own account between 2016 and 2021. The fraud was discovered after her retirement, resulting in a 1.06 million euro loss for the SNCB, which manages the museum. The SNCB has since implemented stricter accounting and control measures, including an internal audit and integration of its subsidiaries. The former employee cited personal struggles and a gambling addiction as contributing factors.
