Toyota receives $4.5 million from US to enhance EV battery recycling efforts
Toyota has received $4.5 million from the U.S. Department of Energy to enhance the sustainability of electric vehicle (EV) batteries. This funding is part of the ARPA-E CIRCULAR program, which aims to develop a domestic supply chain for EV batteries. The project, led by the Toyota Research Institute of North America, focuses on improving the recycling process for old batteries. Collaborating with Oak Ridge National Laboratory and others, Toyota plans to automate battery disassembly and improve battery classification to reduce waste. The initiative aims to create a "3R facility of the future" for reducing, reusing, and recycling batteries. The goal is to extend the life of battery materials and minimize the need for new resources, making battery recycling more efficient.
